About Jan

“I strive for all clients to feel that I am right there with them. We are doing this work together. And together we can transform pain into healing.” ~ Jan Price, LICSW

I have been a psychotherapist for decades and I still love it!

I get that life is hard. I have experienced the many sharp edges of life as well. And deciding to come to therapy is an act of courage. Meeting someone that you don’t know and sharing your hidden places is uncomfortable. From the get go, I want therapy to feel welcoming, real and a place where you can fully exhale. I look to create a safe and compassionate space where you will be seen and accepted for who you fully are. I welcome all individuals regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

In the beginning of my career, I primarily focused on developing skills and insights with clients. Skills work is a fantastic beginning on the journey in managing tough symptoms. And insights help our brains understand why we do what we do. But knowing why doesn’t always help us feel better. In my experience, lasting change involves moving beyond thoughts and behaviors into feelings. This type of emotion focused work is transformative. The traumas of life can lead us to feel overwhelmed, confused, marginalized and not good enough. Talk therapy that is feelings focused can help people delve into what matters most.

I have my Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College and my Masters of Social Work from Smith College. My advanced training is in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.

Be curious and open to something new.
